Types of Cockroaches Found in Arizona

There are at least 20 different species of cockroaches in Arizona, ten of those making of ones you may encounter. You may see cockroaches: the American, brown-banded, field, German, Oriental, Surinam, and Turkestan.
The American Cockroach
The American cockroach is one of the giant roaches you will see in your home, reaching lengths of up to 2 inches. They are reddish-brown and have a yellow band around their head. American cockroaches typically live outdoors but can make their way into homes through cracks and crevices.
The Brown-Banded Cockroach
The brown-banded cockroach is smaller than the American cockroach, reaching lengths of about ½ an inch. They get their name from the two light brown bands that run across their bodies. Brown-banded cockroaches are often found in pantries and cabinets, as they are attracted to food sources.
The Field Cockroach
The field cockroach is a small roach, only reaching lengths of about ⅝ an inch. They are dark brown and have wings, although they cannot fly. Field cockroaches typically live outdoors but can find their way into homes through cracks and crevices.
The German Cockroach
The German cockroach is one of the most common roaches found in homes. They are small, only reaching lengths of about ½ an inch, and are light brown. German cockroaches are attracted to food sources and live in kitchens and pantries.
The Oriental Cockroach
The Oriental cockroach is a giant roach, reaching lengths up to 2 inches. They are dark brown or black and have wings, although they cannot fly. Oriental cockroaches typically live outdoors but can make their way into homes through cracks and crevices.
The Surinam Cockroach
The Surinam cockroach is a small roach, only reaching lengths of about ⅝ an inch. They are dark brown or black and have wings, although they cannot fly. Surinam cockroaches typically live outdoors but can make their way into homes through cracks and crevices.
The Turkestan Cockroach
